Montecristo is one of the most famous Havana cigar brands in the world. Montecristo can be considered the benchmark against which all other Havana cigars are measured.

Its name comes from Alexandre Dumas's novel "The Count of Monte Cristo". Tobacco shop readers read the novel to cigar makers at the H. Upmann factory in Havana, where the brand was founded in 1935. The reception was so great that it was decided to name the new brand after the protagonist of the novel.

Although initially it was composed of five unique vitolas, numbered from 1 to 5, the brand gradually completed an offer that currently covers the tastes of the most demanding smokers, from the majestic Montecristo A to smaller formats .

Launched in 2004 and 2007 respectively, the Montecristo Edmundo and Petit Edmundo stand out among the brand's latest launches.

With its unique aroma and its long filled vitolas, "Totalmente a mano" made with leaves from the "Vuelta Abajo" region, it appeals to both experienced smokers and those new to the world of Havana.

Introduced in 2007, Montecristo Reserva has been aged for three years in all its leaves (wrappers, binders and fillers), paying homage to the classic Montecristo No. 4, the best-selling wine in the world of Havana cigars.

In 2009, the Línea Montecristo Open was launched, specially designed to be enjoyed in open spaces, with four new vitolas: Eagle, Master, Regata and Junior.

In 2011, Montecristo Gran Reserva Cosecha 2005 was launched, the first Gran Reserva made in Montecristo in a format renowned among smokers: Montecristo No. 2.

In 2013, the Double Edmundo vitolas and a new statue, Montecristo Petit II, were launched.

In 2015, the brand launched its 80th anniversary special edition vitola and Montecristo Churchills Añejados, and in 2016 launched its 2016 limited edition, the new Montecristo Dante vitola. Later, Montecristo Línea 1935 launched three new vitolas - Maltés, Dumas and Leyenda - which were included in the brand's regular product portfolio and became the highest quality products of the Montecristo brand.

Montecristo Herederos is the vitola chosen by Habanos SA in 2020 to commemorate the brand's 85th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of the La Casa del Habano franchise network. Herderos are launched to the market in a special box containing 20 flat Habano cigars, which are sold exclusively in La Casa del Habano and the Habano Cigar Experts franchise network.
